I have the honour to inform you that I have received from the Mother Superior of the Asile de la Sainte Enfance an application for the grant of an area of ground on the East side of Wongneichong Valley, as shown in the tracing which accompanies this Despatch, and to recommend the applica- tion for your favourable consideration.

The Institution is well worthy of the
support of the Government, and enjoys the respect of the Chinese Community for the charitable work done by it for sick and destitute children in the Colony, who would become a charge upon the Goverment if their maintenance were not otherwise provided for. I enclose a copy of an article reprinted from a local paper, which gives an account of the work and objects of the Institution. The present premises in Wanchai cannot accommodate more immates, and more applications for the relief of the sick and aged are constantly being received and have

as a hospital and sanatarium for the sick and convalescent,
